Mona was brought up at Springfield, Llanstephan, where her father was a gardener at Llanstephan House. She remembers walking to school in Boughrood and being very grateful when the cart-horses, Dolly, Blossom and Joe were coming along the lane as she could then get a lift!
In 1961, at the age of 30, Mona took over the Boat Inn on Boughrood Bridge from her grandmother and provided a warm welcome and a place to ‘put the world to rights’, as she says, for 46 years, making her the longest serving landlady in Wales. Mona still lives in the former premises of the Boat in her retirement.
